Garance Doré: Beautiful and Free

Author: Garance Doré
For this first essay of the year, I want to talk to you about my why. Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about my life’s work. Not because I’ve caught a major case of a big head, but because it’s good sometimes to question why we do things. Why do I speak to women about my life, sharing all the good, the bad and the ugly? Why do I put myself out there on social media? Why have Emily and I created Doré, our gorgeous skincare brand, just shy of three years ago? It’s because I want to feel—and I want to help women feel—beautiful and free. Beauty and freedom are two of my most cherished values and what I’ve been searching for my whole life.Beauty is not a value, you may say. But what if it was? What if feeling beautiful wasn’t just the superficial quest for a perfect lip but a deep yearning to bring the best of ourselves to the world? What if making spaces beautiful, relationships beautiful, moments beautiful, actually carried deep value?Beauty is that thing that no one can describe but everyone can feel. And freedom is too. This is why I’ve struggled so hard on defining my “mission” as it is called in the world of self-development. I’ve been on a quest for two of the most magical, but also two of the most elusive words in any language. In my writing, finding my freedom of being means sharing my imperfections and my messy moments as well as my moments of genius, allowing likeminded women to free themselves from the pressure of perfectionism. We’re just humans. We’re beautiful just the way we are.And with Doré, it is creating these gorgeous formulas that bring ease and freedom to your lives.I hope that you feel it when you apply your cream in the morning. All the gentleness, the care and the love that goes into Doré. All the respect that we have for you. And all the beauty and freedom we wish you for the new year, and many more years to come.G
