Garance Doré: To Age Beautifully
Author: Garance Doré
As I get older I understand better what it means to age beautifully. In many ways, it can feel very complicated—everything takes more work.In others, the maturing process is a way to learn to honour our bodies and our minds. So many things we’re told to fear about ageing are wrong—and so many things that keep us feeling and looking young we rarely hear about. So today I thought I’d share a list of the things that, I feel, keep our energy youthful—without trying to be anything else than what we are, in the age we are.
- Flexibility and posture. It doesn’t matter our size, beauty is about how comfortable we are in our bodies. So much is expressed in the elasticity of a walk, the way we turn around when someone calls us and, of course, the way we simply carry ourselves.
- Wrinkles and loss of volume can be beautiful. Being beautiful over fifty is not the same as being beautiful at twenty, and I think that is one of the mistakes that we most commonly make. Yes, skin quality is paramount, but, after a certain age, letting a few wrinkles out, a few extra “freckles” and letting our loss of volume gently define our cheekbones can be a true sign of confidence—and confidence radiates beauty.
- Curiosity and openness. I wrote about this in my latest newsletter, and I think it is very important to keep oneself up to date so as to not start dwelling too much on the past. It goes so quickly to slowly let go and never update our style, our reads and even our social media channels that one day, we look around and the world looks foreign.
