Cornflower water, or Centaurea Cyanus Flower Water, comes from the cornflower plant. We use cornflower water in Le Cleanser and La Micellaire, our micellar water, which we source from France. This gentle botanical extract boasts many benefits for the skin. What Is Cornflower Water?Cornflower, from the Latin name Centaurea cyanus, is a plant of the Asteraceae family native to Europe. It’s known for its blue flowers and his harvested between May and July. Like the poppy, the cornflower grows wild, usually in wheat fields. Unfortunately, it’s less present today in this natural state because of the use of herbicides in agricultural farming. The floral water of the cornflower is the result of the condensation of the steam obtained after distillation of dried flowers, which is a technique that’s used to extract essential oils. In the case of the cornflower, rather than collecting an essential oil, this process collects a hydrolate with a density that’s close to that of water. This extraction process maintains the properties and benefits of the hydrolate. The flowers used are not harvested in fields treated with pesticides, but grown in France in organic farming. What are the properties of Cornflower Water?Cornflower water is known for its decongestant, soothing, toning, antiseptic, healing and anti-inflammatory properties. Cornflower water is rich in alpha-terpineol, anthocyanidins and polyenes, which are powerful anti-infectious agents. These give cornflower water its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiseptic properties. Cornflower water also contains linalool, which has analgesic, calming and anesthetic properties, as well as acetophenone, an analgesic that gives the cornflower hydrosol its soothing and healing properties.Benefits of Cornflower Water in skincare:Here are just a few of the ways that cornflower water can support healthy skin:Soothes IrritationOne cornflower water benefit is its soothing properties, making it a great ingredient for those with sensitive or irritated skin.
