For Mother's Day, we wanted to share one of our favorite moms: April Uchitel. April has built a remarkable career — leading brands like Violet Grey and Diane von Furstenberg before founding THE BOARD, a company that matches businesses with fractional talent and has been redefining how modern work gets done for the past five years. We have long admired her signature red lip, and more than that, the confidence and warmth she brings to every room she walks into. Here is her Beauty Minute.
What is your morning beauty routine?
Having been in the beauty business for years, you could say that am a bit of a product junkie. My vanity area looks like a lab. I vary products a bit depending on my mood and how my skin is feeling.
I always rinse my face (no soap) pat dry, love a face spray (Sacred Ritual Rose petal spray, Iris and Romeo reset face mist, Vertly Floral mist), then I use the Doré Peptide serum, sometimes a vitamin C booster from 111 Skin or Le Serum, or a barrier serum from Marie Veronique. As I've gotten older, I find that skin creams just sit on the top of my skin - so always a face oil: Vintners Daughter, Duelist, Furtuna, Woo Oils. Firm Offer Eye cream by Sarah Creal is incredible!
Then my makeup, ending with an SPF spray from Soleil Tou Jours.
And your evening routine?
Remove makeup with La Micellaire, wash my face with Royal Fern Photoactive cleansing balm or Sangre de Fruta botanical face wash - spray with Kat Bürki active Skin Optimizer, bathe my skin in Retrouve Intensive replenishing Facial Moisturizer and Macrene Actives High performing Eye Cream and Doré Le Baume on my lips. I also slather body oil on at night and love Osea and Necessaire.
What products do you keep in your bag?
Given the amount of crazy products I keep on my vanity, I like to travel light! I live in my black crossbody Clare V bag that can only hold my credit cards holder with ID, a small Crown Affair comb , my signature red MAC lipstick, a mini mirror, mints and my phone.
How do you define beauty?
I define beauty by self-awareness and confidence. There are people that are beautiful but so insecure, competitive, or unsure of themselves. I think grace, inner strength, and confidence are the most beautiful things of all.
When do you feel most beautiful?
Funny enough, when I feel the most confident! When I'm wearing something that suits and empowers me, when I feel healthy, fit, rested, and at peace. And when I'm with my girlfriends!
Tell us more about why you started THE BOARD?
I guess like most founders, you build something because you couldn't find it and you wished it existed. THE BOARD is a collective of over 270 senior executives coming out of beauty, fashion, tech, media, and CPG. The idea was simply to join forces and be stronger together. In a world that is changing rapidly week over week, it's impossible to navigate it alone.
By bringing together amazing humans with intentions to collaborate and co-create while evolving in our own career and personal journeys, we're also able to create a destination for companies looking to tap this level of talent. The bottom line is the humanity that connects us all.
I love to say vulnerability is our superpower.
And we have to ask, what’s your favorite address in France?
Years ago, I was in Paris with a client, and it overlapped with Mother's Day weekend. I was solo and wandering through the Marais and stumbled upon the Rue de Bretagne flea market and felt like I landed in heaven! I spent hours strolling through the incredible vendors with no kids, no husband been trying to hurry me along. I still dream about it!
