Three Looks with Caitlin Burke

Author: Doré
Caitlin Burke is a stylist and content creator based in New York City who we adore. You can see styling chops here and her Instagram chops here. We have always been shy about taking outfit selfies but Caitlin taught us the best trick, use your phone to block your face, that way the focus is truly on the outfit and you don’t catch yourself making a weird face. Light bulb moment! Read on to hear more about Caitlin’s thoughts on style.

How would you describe your style in three words?Artfully-inspired minimalism. When do you think you really came into your style? Or is it always evolving?I think good style is always evolving, even depending on geography, mood, season, etc. But I remember several years ago finally realizing the silhouettes that felt most me and the proportions that flattered me best, and I do tend to stick to those and evolve the rest based on the other factors. What is the most treasured piece in your wardrobe?Too many! My top three would probably be: a gold locket necklace that was my grandma’s that I wear every day, an Yves Saint Laurent three-piece suit from 1974 that was my dad’s and somehow fits me perfectly, and a pair of knee-high two-tone snakeskin boots from Phoebe’s last collection at Celine.

Who do you look at for style inspiration?Designers are my favorite artists and source of inspiration. Those who are original, and have a distinct, recognizable point-of-view inspire most: Jonathan Anderson, Dries Van Noten, the Rodarte sisters, Simone Rocha, Pierpaolo Piccioli for his use of color, Phoebe Philo, Marc Jacobs, and Daniel Roseberry for Schiaparelli, to name a few favorites. What are you most excited about in the fashion world right now?Dressing up again! And second-hand fashion. Re-styling old clothes in new ways and less pressure to always consume and produce.
