Earth Day - Packaging Sustainability

Author: Doré
Doré believes all modern brands should do less harm when it comes to formulation, packaging, and business ethics. This month, as so many of us celebrate Earth Day, we wanted to focus in on packaging since we know the beauty industry is one of the worst offenders when it comes to waste. While we’re not perfect, we are focused on a thoughtful approach to our products and their packaging that can be backed up by science and data. We wanted to share all of the data around our packaging that we obsess over, knowing that this is just the beginning and there is so much more we can do, starting with breaking down each of our product packs. We’ve partnered with Bluebird Climate to help us quantify our carbon and waste impact. This data has been provided as part of their analysis of our supply chain for each of our products.Le Cleanser:The tube is made with 50% Post Consumer Recycled plastic in Spain. This product has a co-located regional supply chain in Europe, which minimizes transportation emissions.By sourcing our packaging in Europe near our manufacturer we reduce our product’s carbon emissions by 15%.By using 50% PCR PP in our tube, the product’s emissions are reduced by up to 9% compared to using 100% virgin plastic.La Micellaire:The bottle is made with 30% Post Consumer Recycled plastic and is recyclable. The waste generated per unit of this product falls below average when benchmarked against similar products and how they are typically packaged. We are currently developing a refill for this product to reduce waste further.La Crème:The box of La Crème is made with FSC certified paper in France and the primary pack is manufactured in Germany.Honestly, when we started to assess this product’s packaging further, it wasn’t up to our standards. We are working on a new, refillable packaging option for this that we’ll be releasing next year which will reduce carbon by 46% and waste by 48%, even if you don’t use the refill.Le Baume:The tube is made with 50% Post Consumer Recycled plastic in Spain. This product has a co-located regional supply chain which minimizes transportation emissions.By using 50% PCR PP in our tube, the product’s emissions are reduced by up to 18% compared to using 100% virgin plastic.Boox:All of our direct to consumer orders in the US are shipped in reusable Boox boxes. According to Boox’s Life Cycle Analysis, using Boox boxes reduces environmental impact by 70% over time. You can also recycle all of our products - and any other empties you have - by shipping them back to us in your Boox box. Even the hardest to recycle items are sorted and recycled appropriately via our partnership with Boox and Pact.In addition to our packaging, we are also certified Plastic Neutral in partnership with rePurpose Global. This Earth Day, we are celebrating that the project Doré supports through this program in Chennai, India, has now recovered over 977,000 pounds of plastic waste and over 40,000 rural households have now been provided access to holistic waste management services. We are proud to work towards plastic action to protect our environment and build sustainable communities every single day, and not just today.
