Transitioning Your Skincare for Fall
Author: Doré
As sad as we are that Summer is over, there’s so much to love about the transition to fall. Sweater weather is rolling in, and along with a wardrobe shuffle, we’re also thinking through a bit of a transition with our skincare. With the change in temperature, and especially the change in humidity, your skin may need a little extra TLC. What happens to your skin in the fall?As temps cool, often humidity also decreases, meaning your skin can become drier. It’s really important to focus on moisture and hydration as the humidity drops. In addition to dry skin, the change in season can also bring about flakiness, breakouts, redness and dullness. What products to use in the fall:Gentle, hydrating cleansers: Because your skin is producing less oil in the fall than in the summer, it’s important you use a cleanser that’s hydrating rather than stripping. Le Cleanser offers a super gentle, ultra hydrating cleanse. An ice roller: If you’re finding you’re battling redness, using an ice roller as part of your routine can help. Le Glaçon helps promote circulation and lymphatic drainage and can help reduce redness and any puffiness in the face.Add a hydrating serum or oil: If you’re feeling extra dry, this might be a good time to add a serum focused on hydration, or a face oil into your routine. Look for serums with Hyaluronic Acid which helps the skin to retain moisture. Use a cream moisturizer: If you’re not using a cream moisturizer in the summer, then fall is a great time to switch to a cream-based formula. Look for formulas high in glycerin, hyaluronic acid and ceramides. The ingredients closest to the start of the ingredient list are the ingredients with the highest concentration in the formula and it becomes less as you go through the list. La Crème includes glycerine, hyaluronic acid, aloe vera and other hydrating plant botanicals. Pro tip - apply your moisturizer when your skin is still a touch damp to trap that water in the skin.Skin barrier balm: Fall is a great time to bring a skin barrier supporting balm into your routine. Products that are super occlusive and pack a lot of hydrating ingredients, like Le Baume, should become part of your regular rotation. You can use these products to help prevent chapped lips, dry or cracked patches of skin, cuticles, dry skin around the nose, or anywhere else you need a little hydration TLC. Keep using SPF: Just because you’re maybe not outside as much as you were in the summer doesn’t mean you should be wearing any less SPF. It’s always important to wear sunscreen, especially if you’ve transitioned to using any acids for exfoliating your skin in the fall. Doesn’t matter if you’re inside or if it’s cloudy, you’re still getting UV exposure and should protect yourself.
